getting old? finally? thank god. i thought this hectic running-around-scared-to-always-miss-out on something will never leave my head again. but i am sitting on my couch, pretty mashed up, and the box with a brand new x360 sits next to me, waiting to be hooked up. did i mention those three games on top yet?
and? i cant be bothered. too much stress. setting stuff up, turning on this lousy televison of torture i own and start working out some new controlls. dam, those video games got complicated.
remember pacman? no buttons!
see, i am already talking like my granny - how emberassing.
lets change subjects.
does one of you coffee-table getto-mouse know a jake burton carpenter? no? yes?
i knew there would be one or two. he is THE dude.
if the word dude wouldnt exist we´d call the same chilled cat a "jake". seriously.
give it up for jbc.
note: to those prankster who still havent figured out whom i am talking about just turn out your microsoft-powered personal computers and come back tomorrow.
HE MADE SNOWBOARDING! WE OWE HIM! BIIIG TIME.
JAKE BURTON IS KING
i cant believe i met the guy who looked out of a window in new york city, on a snowy day in december 1977 (yes, in the last century), dropped his calculator and quit his job to set up burton snowboards.
by the way, he had a slight problem:
nobody knew what a snowboard
a. ... was back than
b. ... could possily look like
c. ... would eventually be capable of
d. ... that some 28 years later kids will devote their lives to riding it down some unspoiled powder.
some kids? hell ya, more than 12 million of them.
and one third of them sport their burton board with pride.
i dont write this to get some free gear from burton next season. this is straight up fan-ism: jake is an incredibly charming and nice man, 52, a visionaire with goggles, loyal to snowboarding, father of the revolution and its biggest supporter - and he never went ipo. never cared for those quarterly forecasts and never gave in to some
10 000 greeedy shareholders.
not even nike had a chance-he doesnt take or return their calls anymore. jake is not the one-billion-dollar-baby. in his own words: "nike & snowboarding) haha! not interested".
let me tell you, jake has a soul - what else do you expect from a guy that rides at least 100 days a year!
THANK YOU JAKE.
RESPECT
you just did it - swoosh
